What is the difference between CASCO and compulsory car insurance?

Many drivers think CASCO and compulsory third-party liability insurance are the same thing, but they are fundamentally different. Compulsory insurance is required by law and only compensates damage caused to third parties. CASCO, however, protects your own car.

CASCO insurance covers damage caused by collisions, rollover, fire, natural disasters, vandalism, broken glass and even theft. In some packages parking damages and driverless incidents are also included.

Compulsory insurance only covers harm caused to other drivers, passengers or pedestrians. If you are at fault in an accident, the insurer pays the other party, while damage to your own vehicle is covered only if you have CASCO.

Therefore, despite its additional cost, CASCO is often the most rational choice, as it protects you against major unforeseen expenses.
